Here's an insightful blog piece from
The Hollywood Economist which I saw on a friend's FB status. It explains why our TV shows keep getting better and better and our movies keep getting... well, Avatar (not that Avatar was a bad movie per se). The interesting summary is that movies have to appeal to a global common denominator while TV can appeal to niche audiences or something like that.
